Summary[edit]

The Beginnings of Change is the first arc of Verdict. It began in 1000 and ran to the year 1009. It encompasses the initial start of the game, including Isegrad and Arlandria settling on the island of Sarea, the settling of Lett-Mora and Lilymire, and the actions of Nexus, Nirya, and Rashaka Eight.

Providential Summary[edit]

A summary of events written by DI

This information was written by a character! It may not be entirely factual!

1001[edit]

The first known incident of importance to the greater Empire occurred in the Year 1001, when a number of Elements reacted to the Isegardian settlement. Five large elementals attacked the gates, seeking to consume mana that was quickly accumulating. As a result of this, Captain Locus would lead a group to fight against these Elementals, preventing a large attack on the colony.

In addition, the White Elk spirit known as Velin, the spirit of the Isle, was first spotted in this year, giving feathers and inviting those fleet of foot to a race. Likely an early attempt to test humanity for what was to come.

Lastly, it is during this year that the colonies of Lett-Mora and Lilymire were fully established in both the Caldera and Swamplands respectively.

1002[edit]

"What have you done? You arrogant things... you know not what was buried here! What you have unearthed!!"

In 1002, these words erupted from the Caldera as it began to spew large numbers of Elementals from it’s depths, and earthquakes began to cover the land. Although Providence was unaware at the time, it was here that Nexus, former King of Arcadia, a fallen Kingdom of Sarea, had awakened, beginning to usher forth his forces of the Void in hopes of taking over the Island of Sarea for revenge against the spirit of the Isle, Velin. More information on this incident is contained on Caldera Report A.

That said, several smaller wars broke out during this point against a group known as the Lost Wolf Tribe, and the Sarean Alliance. Providence and Urosil both would find these two groups as foes. Neither of these wars caused major casualties on the side of Providence and the enemies were quickly dispatched.

1003[edit]

With the year of earthquakes and the Calderan mountain erupting, the forces of Providence would move in to access what needed to be done. It is during this incident that the forces of Providence first encountered Nexus face to face. The servant of the Void would do battle against Harbinger Qasere Ethaden, her barely escaping the incident with her life due to the arrival of the spirit Velin to assist her with escape. Unfortunately, it is believed that this battle may have been the tipping point in Qasere’s sanity. The forces of Nexus scattered to the forest while Providence members returned home.

When Harbinger Qasere returned home, her insanity consumed her. The Harbinger ordered the death of several innocent civilians and captains. Fortunately, Locus did not obey this order. Reports are that the two then did battle in the church which Qasere would then escape from, but not without being stripped of station, and vanishing into the woods. For more information, please see the Qasere incident report.

The forces of Urosil mounted an assault against Nexus as he fled to the forest, hoping to finish him off and rout his forces. Unfortunately, while Nexus was defeated, the Arcadian King had not been killed at this time. Still, after the fighting ended, the first reported sighting of the High Faerlan Nirya, and Rashaka 8 occurred on the battlefield, although they did not engage in combat themselves.

1004[edit]

After the High Faerlan had unveiled themselves, they would soon invite the forces of Sarea to meet them in the forest for a dinner party. This was obviously a trap, however there was still an essential need to attend, in case information was obtained there that might not be anywhere else. Only sixteen people were able to make it inside of their party, the rest being attacked by Ents, which were dealt with. Those who managed to make their way inside spoke with the High Faerlan who offered them deals, among which not many accepted. Finally, hostilities would break out, and the Faewild forces declared war against those on Sarea in earnest. It was during this time, also, that Operation Oberon was put into effect, an attempt to curb the influence the High Faerlan may have had on the population. However, due to seeing how the High Faerlan used their magic at the party, and seeing their influence could only affect those who were either Faerlan or marked, and only to the extent of making them freeze, instead of outright turn on their allies, this project was soon scrapped as it was no longer needed.

1005[edit]

Felfire and Dreams Prep In 1005, both the forces of the Void and the Faewild put their plans into action. Nexus and his army of Void Crawlers (or Vu’Raiyen, as he informed me they call themselves) took control of the Caldera. After beginning to enforce his will on the area, he would corrupt several of the guardians using Felfire to drive them mad and to a mostly unsavable state. Velin would come to warn the surrounding people of such.

Likewise, the High Faerlan would make their move. The servant of Delta, Labyrs, would arrive, informing the forces of Sarea that the Faerlan had dragged Sylva, the Greater Spirit of Undergrowth, into a deep sleep, and used this ability to begin to corrupt their dreams so that they could raise a great army of Ents to do battle against the forces of Rhyst.

The forces of Sarea would take a year to prepare to do battle against the newly risen Ents and corrupted spirits.

1006[edit]

To counter the moves previously made by the High Faerlan and the Aracadia King, the forces of Sarea sprung to action. Six teams were assembled, each going after either one of the three Silver Ents, or the three void corrupted Spirit guardians. A silver branch was taken from each Ent as they were defeated, the key to the Sylvan Dream, while each of the Spirits would have a Heart of Felfire taken from them.

At the same time Providence would be looking into things of it’s own interest. The water Draconians, a tribe that followed the Water Dragon Melusine, was discovered when Xiao Long led a team in hopes of finding out more about Zahhak. An alliance was brokered between the leader of these people, Caedir, and Isegard, giving them supplies and trading information. From this, we were informed of the Viruna Trench, the place where the followers of Melusine originated, although this tribe had split with them long before when Melusine vanished.

1007[edit]

In 1007, the final preparations were made. Both Velin and Labyrs were happy that the previous missions were successful and began to lay the path forwards. The items obtained were keys to enter into old Arcadia and the Sylvan Dream. Now, when the time was right, we just needed to pursue them. The Sarean forces would do so in the next year.

1008[edit]

At long last, the Sarean forces would strike against both Arcadia and the Sylvan Dream.

In Arcadia, three teams separated, each one needing to extinguish a power source so that we might be able to reach further into the Arcadian ruins. These sources were each struck down, one by a Providence team, one by an Urosil team, and one team of Lett-Mora. Finally, a task force of members of the three teams was sent forth to defeat Nexus, ultimately succeeding in doing so. His scythe, Splinter, would be obtained and held by Providence during this time. For more information on Splinter, please speak with Seven.

However, it wouldn’t be so easy for the rest of the members. A group of crystal crawlers, and a group of cultists known as the Black Court would assault those who did not defeat Nexus personally. This would lead to a brief moment of concern as Harbinger Dia Long would be captured by the cultists, however she would be traded back for a member of their own, unharmed. This would lead to the Black Court being taken far more seriously.

In the Sylvan Dream, the High Faerlan would be pushed back and defeated similarly by a group of conjoined forces. Unfortunately, my own information on it all is lacking, as I was not there to record it. That said, Nirya and Rashaka 8 were defeated, though not without the whispered death of Labyrs. Sylva was awakened from their dream.

1009[edit]

As a result of the defeat of the Void and Faewild forces, the year of calm, the long year, has begun. It is a time where the forces of Providence and Urosil are focused on preparing and building for the first wave of the Convergence to hit.

At the same time, the Black Court has been focused on. Members have been arrested, executed, or even defected from the force, with the leader still at large but influence largely deteriorated.

Summer’s Poppy, a member of the Sarean previous convergence event, would share information regarding much of what happened during the last event, and how Sarea was lost. For information on that, see document Sarea B.

In addition, peace between the colonies has begun and continues.

A lot has happened during these ten years… And yet… The convergence first wave has yet to arrive. We must remain vigilant.

The mission will soon begin. When the Void and Faewild influence truly reaches Sarea in force, the battle for humanity begins in earnest.
