The Kingmaker

"There is latent greatness in all things weak."

Epithet: The Kingmaker[edit]

Introduction[edit]

Delta is perhaps the most interactive of the Greater Spirits. While still mysterious and often aloof, Delta is the only known Greater Spirit to have not only taught humans in the past, but to have done so multiple times... presumably in past Convergences and beyond as well. In this sense, his title of "Kingmaker" is beyond fitting, for those who find themselves beneath Delta's instruction oft rise to become great leaders and commanders of men.

Backstory[edit]

Long ago, in an age forgotten to both humans and their script, Delta did glorious battle with Helios over a mountaintop village. This village had garnered Delta's favor, but so too did it lie in the path of an active volcano's flow. Being that the domain of volcanoes was Helios' to bear, and that the domain of mountains was Delta's, the matter of the village and its patronage was a tense one. For days, the giants crossed blades, showering the town in ash and dust and blotting out the sun.

It's unknown how the battle proceeded exactly, but we're certain that the village was won by Delta, for the volcano was forced into eternal dormancy and the people of said village were thereafter protected dearly by the Kingmaker... Or so go the tales of Mount Highshield, the self-proclaimed "patron city" of Delta. Highshield has no solid record of Delta's protection since the most recent Convergence- in other words, close to a thousand years- but no less is it a mysterious look into the world beyond these five-hundred-year blockages.

Despite the families of this closed-off, xenophobic city only going back to the last Convergence, the city has written text that extends thousands of years into the past. Codes, stories, and otherwise, all held as sacred relics to those that live there. Each one tells of Delta visiting the then-village and depositing aspiring kings to rule, regrow, and learn. It's for this reason that Highshield is so fearful of the outside world: it's been many years since their sacred texts' predicted apocalypse was due.

In truth, it's likely- and even suggested by some of the more esoteric records- that Delta is one of the rare Spirits in direct opposition to the Convergence, seeking to replant humanity and wishing to grant it a great deal of success despite what that might mean for the world. Highshield is indeed his patron city, and one can assume that, should another end-of-times arrive, Delta will once again descend upon his mountaintop to sow the seeds of humanly success.

Trivia[edit]

Delta is greatly disliked by Helios, who believes he meddles too often and encourages stagnancy.

In fact, Delta is disliked by many Greater Spirits, most of which disagree with his methods and his motives.

Highshield is said to have a very well-kept secret relating to the practice of preserving humans through times of Convergence via prayer and force of will.

Delta is said to be very kind toward humans, but distrusting and critical of his sibling Spirits for being too detached and disconnected.
