Summary[edit]

The Warrior societies make up the backbone of the military forces of the Azulan in numerous clans. Skilled Warriors filled with martial tradition as passed down by their codex. Each society is different in the skills and arms they take into battle, but work together and compete for the greatest glory and honors against the forces of the Void that threaten their homeland. Societies are typically named after some sort of animal or mythical being, which is shown by what style of mask a warrior bears. Warriors of the Sea Wolf society wear fierce lupine masks to intimidate enemies and protect their faces for example.

Entrance into a warrior society hinges on the personal achievements and making of a codex of the inductee. Providing the material for the codex is the first challenge, some making their codex from the bones of undead, scalps of fierce foes, metals found in hard to find places, or hides from demons. When the material is acquired, an Azulan artisan will carefully scribe the techniques and rituals of the warrior society that the inductee wishes to join. They must next present their codex to the warriors they wish to join, showing off the tales and deeds they have done in order to acquire the material for their codex. If accepted, the Warrior will be allowed to enter the ranks of the Society and wear their mask into battle.

While the majority of membership of the Societies is made up of the Resolute, numerous the Deft choose to enter them as well.

Death Rites of Some of the Azulan Clans[edit]

Death is common in the lands of Kal Azul, and there are not many funeral rites out there. But there are certain clans who do things to ensure that the body is not going to come back as an undead.

History[edit]

When a Warrior dies, all attempts to retrieve the body are made. This is the most important step as a body left behind soon raises as an undead which further threatens Kal Azul. When the body is brought back to Kal Azul, it will be stripped of its arms and armor, to be redistributed to the clan.

In a few clans, the bones will be broken and distributed among the fellow warriors and family. They will scrimshaw the bones with scenes of glory, revelry, and happy times. This is to appease the spirit of the warrior and prevent it from being called back as an Angry ghost. By breaking the body into several pieces and distributing it, this prevents the body from being raised as an undead.

Some of the more heroic bodies of the clan will have some of their bones placed in a central shrine area, where warriors often seek to gain the spirits blessing of the fallen heroes before they go to battle.

Additional/Trivia/Quick notes[edit]

These practices are not followed by the majority of the clans, but it is fairly common for such funeral rites to be given.

  • Hair contains the power of the person in question, so allowing someone to actually touch their hair is a sign of trust and deep respect. For this is dangerous if you lose your hair.
  • This is why it is believed when a warrior starts to lose their hair when they get older, that they are getting weaker because they are going bald.
  • One of the greatest punishments for a coward is to be shaved bald
