Voidic Coastline

The Stygian shores is a coastline that spans a large length of a Voidic continent.

Background[edit]

All Rivers lead to the Sea.

Topographically, this coastline spans most of the Voidic landmass that its denizens call home. Stark white sand sifts under the drag of the waves, though one wouldn't be able to tell the true coloration seeing as most of this place is awash in the glow of the Sea of Naim. The unhallowed trees that line the grassy knoll that hangs over the beaches, drinking in this light, possess an almost ethereal quality to them. Winds give the impression that this place still lives, as if the plantlife were caught in the tidal pull, suspended even between life and death. The winds carry up across the beaches, as if being swept away into the watery expanse in front of it.

Creatures don't linger near this bone-white beach. Even with the rare dead being that had wandered too close to the waves, souls fleeing their bodies to join the Stygian Sea, there are few that would dare to risk scavenging these bodies for fear of being touched by Naim themselves.

Like the moon's pull of the ocean causing the tide to rise, so too does the Astral Sea drag the Stygian waters upward. From the shores, onlookers can watch as this massive ocean of naim swells, the lurid pale jade pulled towards an opening in the skies that leads to the nothingness of space beyond. The colors blend where the planar barrier fades into nothing, creating a gradient moreso than an even divide between what is and once was the Void in its entirety. The thinning skies, once a haze of ashen clouds and violet atmosphere, disappears to reveal a true night canvas of Astral debris, twinkling and swirling in the far distance.

It is odd to watch the horizon of an ocean bend, and sit several miles above what one would consider sea level. The Shores are barren and calm, and attention often drifts from the local flora to stare at the Stygian Sea. Some claim this is one of the most hauntingly beautiful locations in all of the Void. And others still would rather stay far, far away from one of the more dangerous native elements of the Void.

Trivia[edit]

The River Styx flows into the Stygian Sea, depositing the countless souls of mortal life into its mass. As such the glow of this Sea is almost like an aurora borealis across most of the sky from miles around.

The trees are a mix of charcoal-black and petrified-white, with no leaves on their boughs. Motes of dust and light seem to catch on the bark of the branches, giving an etherealness to their presence. These forests extend for about half a mile out from the beaches.

Coming too close to the beach for too long has the horrific effect of enticing the living to enter its waters. This effect is felt most strongly on the Stygian Shores, which is why most creatures give them a wide berth. The trees are considered a warning sign that one is coming too close.
