"War Unending."

Epithet: Once Unbound[edit]

Introduction[edit]

Long ago, before Oberon knew the Faewild to be his own and before what we know to be the Unseelie perished alongside the Shimmer, the world was a tumultuous chaos born of war, destruction, and spilled blood. In the time of the Shattering, only one stood to gain without parallel. The Unseelie stood as the Eidolon to claim that aspect of reality, and ever since, our world has not been the same.

Background[edit]

Though Oberon was the first to suggest splitting the Endless Void, he was much weaker without his "mortal" followers to offer praise, worship, and appreciation for his Truth. Even the Shimmer and Titania, mighty in magic though they might be, paled in comparison to the long-standing powers of the Void.

It is the Unseelie that broke the bonds of the Endless Void and not only heralded the Shattering, but carried the Faewild through to the end.

For, you see, as all Eidolons bear their monikers and gimmicks, so too does the Unseelie. It represents all that is tumult and strife, embodying conflict in a way no other can. It is this trait that caused the Unseelie to become something of a fundamental force in the early days of the Shattering... It alone, suffused in the rage and war and spite brought on by this great upheaval, became so vastly, immensely powerful that only the four dragons united could claim to contest its power.

Yet, oddly, its simplicity and straightforwardness has worked out to be one of its most intriguing (and undermining) facets. While other Eidolons created many Generals to lead their powers in this new world, the Unseelie crafted only two.

These two are Relkath and Lilith both of which bear responsibility for a half of the Unseelie's grand, all-encompassing might. One is the Bloodspiller... It is Rel'kath, whose twin blades may draw blood from even the planes themselves. It is by his hand that the second, Lilith is called unto the world, and it is by their combined might that the Unseelie will always grow stronger.

... But... fortunately, all powers such as these must come to an end.

When the Shattering completed and when the planes settled into their respective places in the world, the conflict settled as well. Though the Faewild is nonetheless drowned in warfare, it is a warfare belonging to the united legions of Oberon. Though the Void is drenched in anger and endless turmoil, it is a turmoil watched over by its authoritarian Eidolons.

Thus, as our world has become static, with it did the Unseelie weaken. Oberon was able to lay low Lilith in mortal combat, and Rel'kath was claimed soon thereafter as a trophy of the war that once was. He proudly parades about the Bloodspiller as a reminder of his absolute dominion and of his many victories over his peers; for, of course, with Lilith removed and Rel'kath on his side, the Unseelie was simple to strip of its name.

...

And yet...

While the Shimmer was a titled being with armies to its name, the Unseelie represents a fundamental concept and that alone. As our world tips the scales toward interplanar conflict, some believe that the Unseelie might yet rise once more... That, though Oberon claimed the Bloodspiller, it is only a stepping stone on the path to the unbound war that the Unseelie will always seek.

Trivia[edit]

Rel'kath is the strongest of all the Eidolons' Generals, but bears very little extraneous thought. While he might fight armies for sport, he is untamed and particularly unruly after prolonged conflicts. He is almost impossible to control and often a liability to even Oberon.

Lilith had been more or less lost to time, perhaps to an equivalent extent to the Unseelie itself. We're uncertain if Oberon specifically aimed to wipe their name from history or if this had been merely a clerical loss. The name was rediscovered during Lilith's revival.

Like with the Shimmer, the Unseelie's demise is often viewed as a strict positive on Oberon's "record", so to speak. Though it doesn't produce monsters, what it heralds is horrible for all mortal creatures... and even immortal ones, too.

The Unseelie doesn't seem to have any actual philosophy behind its actions. If possible, it would likely grind our world to dust in pursuit of its endless war.
