“The Vitae of all worlds belongs to the Perfect and those who follow our Father. We are gilded beneath his golden glow.”

Introduction[edit]

Within the Faewild, the Eidolon Oberon leads his children, the High Faerlan, shaped and molded to his image. However, not all the High Faerlan operate the same way. Within the Golden City of Otharine, the High Courts and their politics are well known to happen, however outside of it, some High Faerlan are far less noble.

The Gilded Company is a High Faerlan organization of privateers. Rather far away from the city of Otharine, this group serves Oberon on the sea fronts of the Faewild, driving ships upon the oceans of Vitae to discover, and obtain anything that might bring glory and power to their Eidolonic father. In the year 1035 Ac, the Gilded company is headed by Korfel Dara, a High Faerlan truth magic user known for willing the oceans a sickly red, and the group has drawn closer to their homeland, following Relkath turning against Oberon.

Background[edit]

Though exact dates are lacking, the Gilded company was started at some point between 400 Ac and 700 Ac, and served as a privateering organization for the glory of Oberon. The initial captain was a High Faerlan man named Korfel Roberts. Authorized with seafaring missions, this organization served to strike against the forces of Titania as well the lingering seafaring Shimmer Beasts and minions of Unseelie. Many a Faewild creature has been slain by this crew, oftentimes even using some of the remains as additions to their vessels, if not their vessels themselves, to inspire fear.

The Golden Company’s Flagship is known as the Hunter’s Delight. It is a ship crafted from a sea Beast of the Unseelie in the shape of a giant three headed serpent known as the Jabbering Jaw, the beast that claimed the life of the original Korfel. The Hunter’s Delight is called such due to the ship turning the waters around it blood red, as if mixed with Aurora, something stated to have happened even when the Jabbering Jaw was alive, a delightful sight for High Faerlan who like to imagine that it’s the blood of their enemies.

Much like how the Hunter’s Delight was a creature stolen from the control of the Unseelie and turned into a ship, the crew of the Gilded Company believes that all in the world that contains even a hint of mana belongs to Oberon. Beasts of the Faewild, the magics of the plane, and the life forces of whatever they capture are brutally used due to this belief, with the only prohibited magics being that of the Void which might yet fall under the sway and control of Vul'karik, seeing the Void King as a false god. Everything else is a tool to them, to be used and made perfect for the forces of Oberon, used to fuel his grand truth.

Recent History[edit]

During the turn of the Millennium, the Gilded Company served underneath the general command of Relkath, however orders were sparse given the presence of the Faewild General in the Sylvan Dream. During this time the Gilded Company was stationed on expeditions near islands where the Unseelie’s beasts were located. However, with the freedom of Relkath from following Oberon, and the revival of Lilith, the privateers would find their position precarious, if not dangerous. A large portion of the Gilded Company was destroyed in the wake of some of the Unseelie’s power growing, causing them to fall back to safer waters.

What’s left of the Gilded Company, however, seeks to recover its strength, and to hunt the creatures that weakened them with renewed strength.

Trivia[edit]

The Gilded Company is always led by Korfel. Upon the death of the previous captain, it is custom for the new captain to adopt the name of the Company’s founder. It is believed that doing this inspires dread among the company’s enemies, for while acting for Oberon’s will, they seem unending and unchanging.

It’s common for the Ships of the Golden Company to be crafted from the remains of Shimmer beasts and lesser creatures of the Unseelie. When gathered or facing a foe, truth magic is then often used to make these ships seem still alive as an intimidation tactic.

Some of the favored foes of the Golden Company are fairies. The sadistic High Faerlan will often trap unfortunate fairies inside of mana draining lanterns, and use that drained mana as light sources.
