The Torchbearer

"Let the light cast away all doubts, lies, and evils that dwell in the dark."

Epithet: The Torchbearer[edit]

Introduction[edit]

Within the Endless Void, there was only darkness. What light existed did so only by the conjuration of some singular source that would last as long as its wielder allowed. But when Rhyst was first molded by the Dragons, they recognized that much had been hidden in that darkness. The conspiring of the rebellious Eidolons, the secrets and betrayals that occurred, they all took place where others could not see. And so, Rhyst would be given light through an ever burning sun that would warm the days and ensure every shadow hid itself. Amada, a spirit gifted with Vaiel’s more benevolent traits, was tasked with ensuring the light would reach every corner of the world, and ever since then, she has stood both as a guide and a protector to all who bask within it.

Background[edit]

Amada has been called the sun itself, though many are otherwise certain that the two are distinctly separate. Whatever the case may be, Amada has valiantly served the Elder Spirit Vaiel throughout Rhyst’s history, for it is Vaiel’s light and life that Amada seeks to spread. In the earliest years of Rhyst when the conflict between the planes was much more prominent, Amada sought out the hiding places of the Void wherever it attempted to creep into the world. From the edges of Hysena’s domain to the far mountain peaks, the spirit journeyed to seek them out and rid the plane of their presence.

It was said that despite being outnumbered and caught on a stormy day by a legion of demons and their hordes of undead, Amada called a pillar of sunlight down upon herself and forced her enemies into a retreat. The Void cannot suffer the light for long, and with Amada’s victory, this weakness of theirs was discovered.

For her efforts, Vaiel bid Amada to lift her torch, and when she did, he set alight a flame of burning white light within it. This fire was no true flame, but rather the purest of radiance the Elder Spirit could give his servant. Ever since, Amada has been the truest enemy to all of the Void and the target of many attacks. It was she who forced Karrador into a seeming defeat, for he ventured close enough to Rhyst to fall in range of its sun. Amada commanded the solar beams to strike, and in recognizing true obliteration was near, the demon took his own life and was left to drift among the stars.

Across the world, many good and righteous people look to Amada as a patron of sorts. They have built temples in her honor, and kingdoms have risen in her name and fallen for her faith. She brings the harvest and ensures the world grows strong under the sun’s eminence and strives to bring hope to all during times of despair.

Trivia[edit]

Amada holds a distinct bond to Vaiel, more so than any other spirit save her counterpart Helios

References to all things holy within the world usually fall under Amada’s jurisdiction

In some ancient texts believed to have been authored by the dragons themselves, Amada is said to wield “true” light, a gift of the new cosmos that was similar yet distinctly different from the divine light of the Shimmer
