The Dark Desert

The Obsidian Wasteland is an empty Desert within the Void, empty and lifeless, and taking the color of it's namesake.

Background[edit]

There is no place in the Void that is more bereft of life than the Obsidian Wastelands. As miles and miles of jagged, shattered violet obsidian stretches on from the outskirts of shrublands and craggy dales, there is seemingly no end to the lifeless desert. And as far as the denizens of the Void are aware, there isn't; Beyond it, some may muse (had they the opportunity to), there lies an open wound that bleeds into the Astral Sea, where violent, dry gales kick up these shards of crushed stone and pull them upwards and out, to join the glitter of the celestial bodies found across the emptiness of space. But that's just a rumor.

As it goes, Felfire had sparked where the planes had shattered and fractured, and this, beyond any reasonable doubt, is one such proof of its destruction. The green flame that kindled and burned through whatever once marked the divide between this plane and the next has left its mark in the form of a desiccated graveyard that could only be likened to an ocean of ash. It is almost hauntingly quiet - even the winds seem afraid to make a sound here, other than the susurration and crackle of sifting shards of stone.

Strategically of course, this wasteland has no value. What sustenance could grow in the Void refuses to sow seed and take root here. The Void's equivalent of 'Wildlife' avoids it. Vul'karik's forces do not want to tread across it, Paschia Fel's covens have no use for it, and Nevanerro's devoted would rather leave it well the hell alone. It only remains as a somber reminder of what was once lost.

Trivia[edit]

Nothing grows here, and even blood spilled on the obsidian sands seems to be absorbed from how parched this land is.

There is an aura of dread that radiates from this endless stretch of wasteland. Some believe that it's the only proof that 'something' must have taken refuge at the other end of it. Others just believe it's due to the lack of ambient mana and nothingness that permeates this place.

If there is a secret method of traversing the Wastelands safely, no one has shared it.
