Ashbringer

"All will return to ash."

Epithet: The Sunderer, Ashbringer[edit]

Introduction[edit]

Among the Greater Spirits of Rhyst, few are as volatile and destructive as Helios of Ash. Known to reside within or around volcanoes, burning fields and forest fires, Helios is the patron of all that ends and all that begins, believing that the only way to truly progress is to free oneself of what once was and start anew. Since the day of his "birth", Helios has acted as one of the primary protectors of Rhyst, too busy with fending off extraplanar invasion to turn his sights on rebuilding our world.

Background[edit]

Helios was one of the last Greater Spirits to be crowned, forged from a contest of thousands of similarly-mighty Spirits of Ash that all equally wished to see themselves bore superior to the rest. In the end, Helios was the last left standing. He accumulated territory that covered many if not all of the lava-flows of the world, denoting himself as not just "superior to the rest", but of an outright different breed.

However, despite this great success, Helios still wished for more. He believed the rest of Rhyst to be stagnant and ungrowing, and believed that all would die if it was not refreshed regularly. His outbursts led to forests being felled, lakes being flashed to steam, and ultimately spirits of all types dying unfortunate premature deaths. Helios, for better or worse, wielded the fury and determination of his draconic "father".

It is with this power that Helios is also our greatest defender, though, and since those days of eternal change has he evolved into a warrior like no other. His domain is that which challenges all else, and during times of Convergence when our world floods with the essence of the Void and Faewild alike, it is his blade that sunders all wayward intruders. Long ago, this conflict reached a peak when Relkath made an outward effort to push into Rhyst wholesale...

It was Helios who fought him back, blade against blade. There was no blood to be spilled for only Ash runs through the Greater Spirit's veins, and thus Relkath could not secure a victory. Like hot magma, it cemented Relkath's draw, ensuring that the General of Oberon never found purchase as he might when culling an army of mortals or a more physically grounded Greater Spirit.

Nowadays, this is often how the two can be found during times of Convergence; two masters of their craft, craving so dearly for the day when the other slips and one realm can fall to the opposite.

Trivia[edit]

Unlike many Greater Spirits, Helios does not fear death or replacement. He believes a superior Ash Spirit will one day rise up and overtake him.

While Amada bears a familial or friendly bond with Vaiel, Helios instead bears a colder, more distant relationship. They share goals and methodologies moreso than words.

Helios is said to have not battled Relkath in some time. Some fear this means Relkath's priorities have changed or shifted.

Helios greatly dislikes Delta, believing he meddles too often and encourages stagnancy.
