Epithet: The Kingmaker’s Magistrate, Delta’s Vassal of Judgment[edit]

Introduction[edit]

Within dozens of mountains, there are also deep valleys, and to the eastern part of Highshield, a fair bit of travel from the port cities of the Rane Kingdom, and far from the highest Spires of the territory, sits one of the deepest valleys within Highshield. The location is home to Akelda’s Monastery, one of the many sects holding claim to serve one of the four Saints, the students of Sayua Ando.

Krina, the Kingmaker’s Magistrate, is the Spirit who guards this monastery, tests the monks within, and holds claim to the valley of the large lake one must cross if they wish to reach the Monastery. A direct servant to Delta, and a friend to the late Akelda, she is considered to be a figure of guidance and judgment, encouraging the monks of her sect along their paths, and others to stand strong against the extraplanars who would otherwise take the world.

Myths[edit]

In Highshield, Krina is known for a pair of Myths, one where she swore allegiance to Delta, the Kingmaker, and one where she allowed one of the Four Saints, Akelda, to build a monastery upon her lands. However, the telling of these myths is considered, embellished, and sometimes the order is switched, or details added or omitted. While the result of these myths are known, it is difficult to tell if these myths, as written, are true to history.

[The following myths may or may not be entirely accurate]

Myth of Krina and Akelda[edit]

The tale of Krina and Akelda is a tale known by the monks of her Monastery, and only occasionally spread. It was stated at the end of the Convergence that took the life of Sayua Ando that Akelda, a supposed member of the four Saints who had formed the sect of the Dragon, began to travel around Highshield. While other members of the four saints began their own travels across the corners of Highshield, Akelda, her mind full of thought, would seek not just how to fight against the Convergences, but also how to allow people to thrive.

To that end, as she moved through the valley, Akelda would find an area in which people had managed to survive. Unfortunately, they had done so by working with the Demons, and while many had been driven off by the Convergence, some of their supporters remained. Those that chose to fight the monk found themselves defeated, slain. However, among them all Akelda discovered a child, not fully extraplanar-touched, however sick with the energy that the plane brought with it.

While the child’s village was destroyed, Akelda would bring her along, trying to purge her from the malady of the planar energy. This would end with Akelda finding a Rhystian lake filled with pure water, the domain of Krina. Akelda attempted to save the child, giving them the water, and thankfully managing to protect their life.

It was this action, the saving of a child at the edge of the lake, that drew Krina’s attention. The Spirit came forth, observing, and eventually greeting the monk. Akelda apologized for feeding the water of the lake to the child without asking for the Spirit’s permission, however, Krina would approve of the life being saved and the steps taken to make it so. To this end, Krina would give permission to Akelda to attempt to cleanse more people of the extraplanar in the valley, eventually allowing for the monk to build a monastery there.

Myth of Krina and Delta[edit]

Long, long ago, the tale of Delta and Krina was inscribed upon the lofty pillars at the peaks of Mount Highshield for the Ando monks to remember it by. There was a time before Delta, the Kingmaker, was the greater Spirit, a time before he became noted for when he fought against the Convergence and made Highshield. It was in this time that lesser Spirit Delta traveled across Highshield, friend to both man and spirit that would protect man.

Years after having allowed the monk monastery to be built in her valley, Krina found her people threatened by Demons who had made their way deeper into the heart of Highshield. She fought, attempting to force them back, both from herself, and from the people she protected, but she was unable to do it. About to be slain by the invading horde, and the people who supported her slaughtered, a large shield and blade came to her support, the stalwart figure of Delta forcing back some of the Demonic horde. It was together, Delta and Krina, that the monastery would be protected, and remained standing.

When the horde was defeated, Krina would honor Delta. Where other Spirits, some even with more domain area, had refused to aid her in combat, Delta had come and helped her. In turn, she would grant him something, and he was to name his wish. Were it within her power to grant, she would.

Delta’s wish, however, was for Krina to protect man. Where other Spirits wouldn’t risk themselves for humans, Krina had fought against the Demonic horde to defend the monastery. That was the reason that Delta had come to her side, to help in the aiding of the weak. Such a wish impressed Krina, not wanting more than to see lives protected. In that moment, she swore to follow him, becoming one of Delta’s vassals.

Trivia[edit]

Underneath the Traditional Classification of Spirits Chart, Krina is a Tier 4 or Intermediate Spirit.

Krina is said to be a Spirit within Highshield who made the judgement call that Anima did not innately harm Rhyst, when brought to be investigated by Highshield.
