"Her light still shines through them, for they have turned their struggles into their strength."

Summary[edit]

Born of High Faerlan experiments to craft Spirits for the Faewild, the Anima know well the dangers of the chaotic. Originating from the domain of Sylva, having been freed with the Greater Spirit's release from her abyss, they now march alongside Arlandria in the homeland- and are soon to march among their followers in Sarea as well, beholding the forested nation in a light that reminds of home.

Beware their abilities in combat, for the Anima are uniquely capable of taking on animalistic shapes and forms. They might well have been made mortal by the aforementioned experiments, but through them did they retain many of their spiritual traits- key among those being natural shapeshifting.

Appearance[edit]

Culture[edit]

Origins[edit]

The spirits of Rhyst symbolize quite literally the pride and power of its Eidolons. They were the prime creations of the Elemental Dragons, and though they have been gifted with the blessings of their creators, the target on their back is one that marks them as quarries for their Faewild equivalent, the High Faerlan. With three of Oberon’s hunters meddling in the affairs of Rhyst prior to the Convergence, the domain of the Great Spirit Sylva was infiltrated and twisted. The trees turned to Ents, beasts only truly known to the Faewild, while an uncounted amount of spirits were captured by the High Faerlan trio. Two of them, Nirya and her partner Rakshasa 8, ventured to Sarea, a localized point of intersection for the Convergence, while the third stayed behind. This High Faerlan utilized his magic to torture and transform his prisoners. The goal was to force them to serve, however, Rhyst’s hold is a difficult thing to shake while within the natural world. Though heavily affected by his efforts, by the time Nirya and Rakshasa 8 were defeated, the spirits suffering at the hands of the High Faerlan were still loyal to their world. The final hunter had to depart, for the forces of Sarea had come to free the Great Spirit from the slumber the High Faerlan had placed her under, and in departing, he left his work unfinished.

Their forms pained and their minds fractured, these spirits could no longer call themselves as such. They had lost their domains and their strength to the Fae corruption stuck within them, and worse yet, they lost their immortality. The crime was one of terrible consequences as these former spirits who knew not true pain or anguish were now susceptible to all of the difficulties mortals must face. However, despite all of this curse, there were still some silver linings to be found.

The intermingling of the fae magic within granted these creatures the ability to take physical shape, and given the spirits’ form to shift into a natural form, they found that they could now masquerade as natural animals of Rhyst. Those who rekindled their hope and embraced their fate departed from the forest and traveled to Arlandria. It was there that they declared themselves a new people, one that they would call ‘Anima’. Given their past and their hardships, the Anima vowed to fight alongside Arlandria against the Faewild so that they may ensure that their population is not increased during the coming Convergence.

Anima are the embodiment of Sylva’s vengeance, and though the High Faerlan infected them with foreign magic, the influence of their guardian wards their very beings from unraveling completely. They seek justice for the wrongs done to them, and some aspire to someday return to their ‘true’ form as spirits once again. Others have consigned themselves to acknowledge what they have become, and though their lives have been cut far shorter than they had ever expected, they intend to do as much as they can with the time they have.

Spirits[edit]

The Anima possess echoes of the special talents spirits are known to have. They are innately drawn to the elemental magic of Rhyst and are directly intertwined with the natural world around them. Through their shifting forms they may appear as any animal known to the world. Whether it be the strength of a bear or the flight of an eagle, the Anima are capable of utilizing their shapeshifting to traverse the world as the Great Spirit Vaiel intended. Though they lack the immortality and ethereal body of their spiritual kin, their new bodies are tied directly to the Faewild itself, and as wary as one should be regarding extra planar magic, the Anima may draw upon their curse to turn it into their greatest utility. The Anima are a younger species, one newer to the world than even the Empyrean of the Empire, and yet their sense of community has bloomed within the forests of Arlandria where they have begun to live and thrive.
