Summary[edit]

The children of Oberon and inheritors of his domains within the Faewild, the High Faerlan see themselves as the pinnacle of creation. These creatures, close relatives of Rhyst’s newfound Faerla, are far more connected with their home plane than their exiled cousins. High Faerlan are notably slender, tall and extremely agile. Often their eyes are without a darkened pupil and they boast beauty beyond compare among their perfectly crafted features. Their picturesque aesthetics only exist upon the surface, for once they smile, one becomes aware of their terrifying sharpened teeth and the darker, crueler personalities set within. The High Faerlan are not kind to outsiders, and in Oberon’s attempts at infiltrating Rhyst, he often sends squads of hunters through rifts to carry out violent deeds. Many in Rhyst have been kidnapped or murdered should they have attracted the ire of the High Faerlan, and in more recent history it has become an unspoken duty of the High Faerlan to retrieve their lost relatives, something that has marked the Faerla as targets for these expert trackers and assassins.

Appearance[edit]

Mechanics[edit]

High Faerlan gradually upgrade themselves as they progress through racial tiers, their increased level allowing their body to handle more and more of their latent ability. At level 30, choose between different types of Enhanced Sight- should you pick the offensive option, you'll be locked out of using your ring slots, but you'll be given Pure Eyes as compensation.

While they might not advance your specialty stats as ordinary rings would, they'll instead enhance your magical damage, converting some percentage to true damage and allowing you to use magic in a brand new way.

At the end of your learning cycle- level 70+- you gain the ability to manifest a Truth Weapon that exists in your hands only. Each Truth Weapon has a unique take on its category of weapon and, should you reach level 90 and apply, can be upgraded via Apotheosis. An Apotheosized Weapon has a personality all its own and, while enormously powerful, will gradually kill the creator should they lose it for a time.

Beware, for these weapons can warp the shape of a bearer into that of their creator over time.

Culture[edit]

Once known only as the Faerlan, the Children of Oberon have since asserted their newer classification to differentiate themselves from their lesser cousins within Rhyst. The High Faerlan were Oberon’s response to not only Vul’karik’s demons, but to his rivals within the Faewild itself. Like the demons, they are shaped and molded for function, but unlike demons, Oberon held the idea of perfection in his mind. He wanted his creations to not only be formidable fighters and hunters, but to reflect his beauty as well.

In appearance, the High Faerlan are taller and leaner than mortals. They are often hiding predatory traits behind their pretty features. Sharpened teeth, wide, slitted pupils, or even claws may suddenly reveal themselves should a High Faerlan go on the offensive. Given the nature of the Faewild however, there is no known catalog of everything a High Faerlan may or may not be hiding. Some believe they are creatures of adaptation and are often shaped and guided by their emotions.

The strongest of the High Faerlan allow their turbulent mentalities to dictate their every move. Ruled by whim and instinct, some of the greater High Faerlan form what they call their ‘true state’, a place of mind reached by connecting with their inner self. Most claim this is found by latching onto a singular emotion and refining it until it acts as their primary fuel and motivation. Some find this elevated state within their anger, others within their despair or ecstasy. The effect differs from High Faerlan to High Faerlan, but once they achieve it, they become an unrivaled force of Fae magic.

While this phenomenon acts as one of the greatest strengths of the High Faerlan, it also serves as their primary tether to Oberon, one that they are very much reliant on. Delving into their emotional state to such a degree requires the guidance and connection to their patron, and High Faerlan that deviate from this path often go mad to the point that their mind degenerates until they are nothing but a lifeless husk, barely capable of breathing.

Ooc Notes[edit]

When applying for a High Faerlan, it is important to be aware of their personality and general intentions. Any High Faerlan that leaves the Faewild does so to join in a hunt of some kind. Some hunt enemies of Oberon like the demons of the Void or the spirits of Rhyst, while others have come to reclaim or slaughter their lesser cousins, the Faerla. In any case, High Faerlan lack sympathy for other species and see them as animals ready to kill. They are highly social within their own circles, and are even extremely political within the Faewild itself.

High Faerlan may look like Faerla in appearance, but they often have just a little bit more strangeness to offer due to their quick and emotive adaptations.

Please keep in mind that High Faerlan who turn against their connection to Oberon will succumb to a madness that will destroy their mind and claim their life. There is no known cure for this sickness. A traitorous High Faerlan often dies after one year of suffering the disease.
