The Beginning

In the beginning, there were sixteen. It is unknown where or how these entities came into being, but what is known, at least in theory or myth, is that these sixteen beings shaped and formed the universe as it is known today. It is said that they originally resided within a vast and dark silence. There they existed alongside one another in harmony and peace, though this would not last. Some called for a change, given the eternal stagnation that had been seemingly placed before them. This suggestion alone was enough to spark a conflict that would be known as the Eidolonic War, given it was a war of these ‘perfect’ beings that predated the planes themselves. It was from this title that those who fought in the war became known as the Eidolons, and as reality was shaped through their fighting, so too did their personalities, their physical bodies, and their relationships come to being. Eight fought to change their universe, while eight defended what they already had.

Their battles sundered the darkness they called home, and in that shattering, four Eidolons loyal to the infinite Void were slain. The advantage was pressed, and the eight who wished to forge their worlds anew did so. The breakage of their previous reality formed four separate planes.

The Four Planes

The first was the Faewild, a realm filled with an overabundance of mana and latent elements of unusual properties created from the conflict between the Eidolons. The Faewild was claimed by four Eidolons who sought not only to create a new world, but to use it to further their own power. This caused further infighting, and the second Eidolonic War, one commonly referred to as the Faes’ Contempt, resulted in the defeat of two more Eidolons. Once the dust settled, only Oberon and Titania remained.

The second was Rhyst, a natural world where the central elements of reality fell into balance. Four Eidolons that wished for a new world simply to oversee their work claimed it as their own, and once they deemed their project complete, they chose to rest. Among these four was Zahhak, the Great Dragon of Fire.

The third was called the Void, for it was all that was left of the original realm the Eidolons called home. The remaining four who wished to preserve what they once had claimed this plane, and for a time, they existed peacefully once again in that silence. However, the fourth plane, a vacuum dubbed Limbo, required a hand to shape it, lest it become a place for all things to descend into nothingness. One of the Eidolons of the Void departed from the others to oversee this central well of infinity, and this act was seen as a betrayal by their friend and ally, one considered to be the strongest of the standing Eidolons, Vul’Karik. Within this division, another Eidolon of the Void slipped into obscurity, never heard from again, leaving the scorned Vul’Karik and the fourth Void Eidolon, Paschia Fel, to contend for dominion over the dark plane.
